Kenner police are searching for 26-year-old Rodney "MC Shakie" Roussell, who is suspected of printing fraudulent checks that were cashed for more than $70,000, according to the Kenner Police Department.
Officers arrested 11 people linked to Roussell Tuesday and were searching for Roussell, who detectives said may have fled to Houston.
"That's quite a large amount, considering he was hitting these little convenience type of stores that would cash checks. One business was out about $40,000. That's quite a bit of money," said Lt. Wayne McInnis, a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department.
Police said that at least 11 people arrested in connection to the scheme cashed fraudulent checks -- for a total of $70,194.78 -- at several local businesses.
Investigators say Roussell printed a "Fast Tax Inc." logo on the checks, which were for a "tax refund anticipation loan," according to a statement issued Tuesday by the department.
During a search of Roussell's apartment on North Elm Street in Metairie, officers turned up computers, printers and a stock of blank checks. A forensic exam of the computer turned up the "Fast Tax" logo and templates for blank checks.
Roussell has been arrested at least once before. In November 2004, the New Orleans Police Department booked Roussell on four charges of identity theft and one count of forgery, among others.
